Colin Jones offers some good thoughts about how we measure ourselves against our peers in a struggle to gain superiority and identity.

The problem is that seeing our forms of comparison as absurd won’t solve the deeper issue. The deeper issue is that we are living in a self-centered reality. As long as I’m the center of my existence, it REALLY matters that I am worthy.”
