Theologian Bill Cosby Confronts Prosperity Theology
I’ve joked with friends before about posting content here from the Osteen camp. It’s a joke because Joel Osteen and his crew do not edify. They merely tickle ears, which is quite different. So, posting any Osteen content would be quite ironic on a site designed to edify. Well, I couldn’t resist the temptation to partake of some of this delicious irony when I came across this recent video clip. Even though it’s very short, it is very hard to watch it all the way to the end. But you must persevere to the very end in order to get the full effect. Whether this is edifying or not, it had to be said.
See additional thoughts on the topic in a subsequent post as well as Matt Walsh’s poignant observation that the Osteens are merely a reflection of what our culture already believes.
I needed that this morning.
Glad we could provide what you needed this morning. Something tells me lots of other people need it too.
WOW. I am shocked (I suppose I should not be) at what she just said. Speechless. That is such a shame that so many people listen to that (and whatever other lies they share) and believe it. Yikes.
Thankfully, Bill Cosby wasn’t speechless. Sometimes we need a prophet to say what all the rest of us were thinking.
p.s. maybe it isn’t edifying, but it sure put all of those listeners on my prayer list! I kind of don’t think about those prosperity folk anymore and just hope they are doing some good. But after hearing this it is a wake up call that it is dangerous and not biblical.
You make a good point about the need to pray against deception and false teaching in the Body of Christ. Paul warned that there would be many false teachers and that they would be all too willing to tickle the ears of the people with the teaching they wanted to hear. This is a classic example of just such a thing.
